A Letter of Recommendation that Became a Legacy Letter: Carl Morgenstern, 2025
Barbara Morgenstern & Carl Morgenstern
When my late father and law partner decided to retire, I had the opportunity to apply for a faculty position at Miami University. His recommendation is my most precious Legacy Letter.

—————
In 55 years of the practice of law, I'm finding myself in the unusual position of writing a letter of recommendation for my daughter, who also has been my colleague for many years.
I had hopes that she would take over my practice, but she has unique talents in many fields and wishes to follow her star.
I have watched her evolve into a first-rate lawyer. The first major case Barbara undertook was a libel case, which I and my associate felt had no merit. So what did we have to lose? We turned it over to the newest member of the firm during her first month on the job. Coupled with her newspaper experience and knowledge of the First Amendment cases (she was fresh from a federal court clerkship with Chief Judge Carl B. Rubin), her work resulted in a substantial settlement in a short time.
Of course, anyone reading this recommendationk knows I am completely biased. However, Barb is of deep character, honest to the point of embarrassment, has a wonderful sense of humor and gets along with everyone including her father.
She is a wonderful writer and greatly enhanced the prestige of our firm by participating in a U.S. Supreme Court case, a newspaper libel case, Harte-Hanks Communications, Inc. v. Connaughton, 491 U.S. 657 (1989). In1988, just two years out of law school, she helped draft the brief to the Supreme Court (her name.appeared on the brief) and appeared at counsel table during the oral hearing.
She is loyal to a fault and our clients love her.
I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Anyone she works for, in my opinion, is very lucky.
Please feel free to phone me.
Sincerely,
Carl Morgenstern
